The United States offers several types of visitor visas for individuals wishing to travel to the country for various purposes. The most common types of visitor visas are:

B-1 Business Visitor Visa: This visa is for individuals traveling to the United States for business purposes, such as attending conferences, meetings, negotiations, or training sessions. It does not permit employment in the United States.

B-2 Tourist Visitor Visa: The B-2 visa is for individuals traveling to the United States for tourism, vacation, or to visit family and friends. Activities allowed under this visa include sightseeing, visiting attractions, attending social events, and receiving medical treatment.

B-1/B-2 Combination Visa: This visa allows for both business and tourist activities during a single visit to the United States. It’s suitable for individuals who plan to engage in both types of activities during their stay.

Visa Waiver Program (VWP): Citizens of certain countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program can travel to the United States for tourism or business purposes for stays of up to 90 days without obtaining a visa. Travelers must apply for authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before their trip.

Transit Visa (C Visa): This visa is for individuals passing through the United States on their way to another country. It allows for a brief stopover in the U.S. while en route to a final destination.

Crewmember (D Visa): Crewmembers on board a vessel or aircraft traveling to the United States may require a D visa. This includes airline crew, ship crew, and other individuals employed on transportation vessels.

Student Visitor Visa (F-1, M-1): Students enrolled in accredited educational institutions in the United States require either an F-1 visa (for academic studies) or an M-1 visa (for vocational or non-academic studies).

Exchange Visitor Visa (J-1): This visa is for individuals participating in approved exchange programs, including students, scholars, research assistants, and participants in cultural exchange programs.

Gather required documents: The specific documents required may vary depending on your individual circumstances and the type of visa you are applying for. However, common documents include:

  • Passport valid for travel to the United States.
  • Passport-sized photograph(s).
  • Evidence of ties with the country from where you are applying for visa such as employment, family, property, or other commitments, to demonstrate your intent to return after your visit.
  • Proof of funds to cover your expenses during your stay in the USA.
  • Any additional documents requested by the embassy or consulate.
